Pantheon by Night and City Center Hidden Gems

During this evening walking tour, we’ll discover both the iconic landmarks and the hidden gems of Rome’s historic center, when the heat of the day has eased and most of the daytime crowds have gone.

We’ll begin in Piazza di Pietra, where the impressive columns of the ancient Temple of Hadrian are incorporated into a modern building. Here, you’ll learn about Emperor Hadrian and the heartbreaking love triangle connected to his life.

After this piece of “ancient gossip,” we’ll continue to the Church of St Ignatius to discover its extraordinary perspective illusions. This will be one of the highlights of the tour—you may struggle to believe your own eyes! It is incredible how artwork created almost 400 years ago can still fool us so convincingly today.

We’ll then make our way to the Pantheon. Usually closed in the evening, this extraordinary monument will be exceptionally open after hours on selected dates in August. We’ll step inside and explore one of the best-preserved buildings of ancient Rome, discovering its remarkable architecture, fascinating urban legends and the ingenious light effects designed almost 2,000 years ago.

Just behind the Pantheon, we’ll also stop by one of Rome’s most unusual monuments: a small elephant carrying an ancient Egyptian obelisk. Its curious appearance is connected to a true and entertaining story of revenge against a friar.

After all these unexpected stories and jaw-dropping wonders, we’ll end in Piazza Navona, one of the most beautiful squares in Rome. Here, you’ll hear about legendary artistic rivalries, the propaganda campaigns of powerful popes and the ancient Roman stadium that still lies beneath the square.
